The battle of the chat applications is destined to take on a new dimension as an old player makes an appearance in entirely new territory. After much anticipation, yahoo messenger has finally launched its attack against other chat applications such as Qik and Tango by officially joining the list of chat clients on iPhone and also on Android phones. This will definitely be great news to many chat enthusiasts as every big player that joins usually presents a host of other opportunities but it is quite unfortunate for most of the other players in this wildly competitive sector of social networking as yahoo messenger wasn’t planning to come late to the battle brandishing the same old weapons.

FEATURES

It does nobody any good to dwell on the usual stuff as everybody knows what users have been able to do with yahoo messenger in the past. The thing on everyone’s mind has been of course, what NEW things the IM application brings to iPhones and androids. Luckily, it doesn’t disappoint. The cross platform video chat will definitely be thing that will send most users nuts (in a good way). Cross platform means that the video chat won’t just be working between yahoo messenger on phone and android but also any other device running yahoo messenger including webcam equipped P.Cs. Apart from that, the video chat will reportedly work over both 3G and Wi-Fi networks. This is especially good because where you’ll luck either of these you will definitely find the other.

AVAILABILITY

The application is already out in the market and is currently available as a free download. Android users can access it on the android market although those with version earlier than 2.0 will have little to do with the applications as it can only run on O.S. 2.0 and newer versions. iPhone users will find it the iTunes application store where it has been available for review already.

RELATED APPLICATIONS

The yahoo messenger for android is also being marketed hand in hand with its elder brother, a yahoo mail client for android which also comes with a whole bunch of new features. Also, toggling between the two applications is reportedly much easier. The mail client allows the user most of the liberties that come with using the mail client of P.C. including an easy download of mail attachments.

As far as chatting goes, yahoo is really going out of its way to make the other players miserable but the user’s wont be complaining at all. Its cross platform video chatting is a wealth of possibilities that has just been opened up to the consumers
